Music for Your Events

Who we Are

Always ready to adapt, our ensemble provides music for weddings, garden and house parties, museum and gallery openings, nature programs, school programs, and events whether corporate, private, long-planned, or spur-of-the-moment

We particularly cherish providing enjoyment and education to the community at the intersection of nature and music, and have played for many events in the great outdoors. Whether indoors or amidst nature, our stringed instruments of nature’s own wood come together with wind instruments powered by human life-force breath, as they have for thousands of years.  Our trio reflects the distinctive qualities of our instruments – a soaring flute, a silky violin, a glowing cello, and their string and wind relatives.

Our repertoire draws on genres from Baroque to popular contemporary, giving our clients many choices in selecting music.  A major reason we are adaptable is that all of us are experienced music educators.  With our natural rapport with youth, we also create and provide innovative, experiential programs for schools and educational events.

Linda Habig,
Director and Flutist
Wind and Wood Players

Linda Habig, flute, alto flute, piccolo

Nurturing  her flute students, from pre-school age through adult, Linda helps them discover the heart-warming love of musical expression through the flute.  A registered teacher with the Suzuki Association of the Americas, she teaches in the Denison University Suzuki Program and also privately.  An enthusiastic ensemble player, Linda is a member of the Heisey Wind Ensemble, and has performed with many regional groups.  In New York, Cleveland, Philadelphia and Chicago, she studied with prominent teachers including Frances Blaisdell, William Hebert, Kenton Terry, and Susan Levitin.  Among her academic credentials, Linda holds a degree in flute performance from Baldwin Wallace University.

Unexpected and fun facts: .  She can be found riding her quarter horse Shawnee through the woods and fields of Licking County when not fluting. Prior to 2004, Linda had an extensive career in corporate finance. She lives in Granville with her husband Bill.

Robin Brown, violin

Since starting violin studies at age six with Ruth Stuber Jeanne (Granville, Ohio), Robin has performed in musicals, orchestras, chamber groups, and bands, playing in all kinds of genres -- classical, Celtic, jazz, rock/pop/country.  At Indiana University, she studied violin in the pedagogy of violinists Itzhak Perlman and Josef Gingold.  As a registered teacher with the Suzuki Association of the Americas, she has taught violin for many years, both privately and in the Denison University Suzuki Program.  Her greatest joy is playing and sharing the spirit of music with others.

Unexpected and fun facts:   Robin holds a Ph.D. in zoology and has taught at several universities.  She lives in Granville with her husband Greig, son Jack, and several cats and chickens.

Dan.jpg

Dan Clark, cello, guitar

Realizing an affinity for chamber music in high school, Dan over the years has found deep appreciation and love for playing in small ensembles. He has discovered that the magical connection between players in a smaller ensemble and the chemistry that can evolve between a group and its audience are forever intriguing. Additionally, he often performs in orchestras and as a soloist. Gaining musical knowledge from his teachers including Ernst Silberstein (The Cleveland Orchestra) and William Conable (The Ohio State University), Dan earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Otterbein College. With his extensive background, he was the string specialist at Stanton’s Sheet Music in Columbus, Ohio, helping music teachers, students and professionals find just the right music for their needs.

Unexpected and fun facts:  As a bass and guitar player, Dan has also explored rock, pop, folk, country and jazz music over the last 50+ years. During one stretch, he and his wife performed together in The Time Between, a folk group which played at coffee houses, art show openings and summer festivals.  Dan also likes to spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren as well as dabbling in gardening, cycling and cartooning.

OUR MUSIC

Our extensive repertoire includes classics by composers such as Handel, Vivaldi, Haydn, Schubert, and Mozart. Appreciating Celtic history and sentiment, we’ll play tunes such as Si Beagh Si Mhor and Flowers of Edinburgh. For lighter fare, our repertoire ranges to ragtime, Broadway, Gilbert & Sullivan, American fiddle, and contemporary popular genres. On some of our repertoire, Dan Clark plays guitar in place of cello.

We also collaborate with guest artists. Performances have included a quartet with the addition of viola, and a quintet with the addition of viola and clarinet.
